Danish medical stock surges to the top in difficult market for healthcare stocks

Developments during the week at the Nordic growth exchanges

The Kapital Partner Nordic Growth Exchanges (KPNGX) index fell 2.3% last week. The Swedish S30 index rose 0.3%, while the Danish C25 index rose 0.4%. 285 out of 917 companies in the KPNGX index delivered a positive return last week. The 3 best performing stocks on the Nordic growth exchanges were Danish CS MEDICA A/S (+77%), Transiro Holding AB (+51%) and WntResearch AB (+44%). The worst performing stock of the week was Modulight Oyj, down 45%.

Developments at sector level on the Nordic growth exchanges

All sectors fell during the week. Academic & educational services fared best, although the sector fell 0.4%. Basic matierials, healthcare, financials, technology and real estate all outperformed the KPNGX index. Utilities was the worst performing sector last week after falling 5.1%.

The 3 best performing stocks on the Nordic growth exchanges last week

CS MEDICA A/S (+77%) is a Danish medical technology company. The company specialises in the development of medical devices. The portfolio includes products containing medical cannabis (CBD), with the main focus on dietary supplements and various treatments. The products are used, for example, by patients suffering from psoriasis, osteoarthritis and hair loss. The largest operations are in the Nordic market, where the products are resold under own brand.

CS MEDICA A/S announced last week that it has intensified discussions with potential investors on an issue of 5-60 MDKK at 31.50 per share. At the time of writing, the share is trading at 17.65 with a market capitalisation of 194 MDKK. The stock has risen 154% year to date.

Transiro Holding AB (+51%) is active in digital order management for the transport industry. The concept is to offer customers solutions that increase efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of transport. The products provide, for example, information on arrival times, nearby vehicles and information on how drivers can drive in a more environmentally friendly way.

The company has a market capitalisation of SEK 70 million and its share price has fallen 28% year to date.

WntResearch AB (+44%) is active in biotechnology. Today, the main focus is on the development of drug candidates against various metastatic cancers. Research is focused on studying the body-specific protein WNT-5a, which has been shown to play a crucial role in tumor cell proliferation. The products are licensed to various industry stakeholders.

The company has a market capitalisation of SEK 121 million and its share price has risen 86% year to date.

Developments during the week on First North Denmark

The Kapital Partner First North Danmark (KPFNDK) index rose 0.4% last week. The KPFNDK index is one of the best performing stock indices in the Nordic region relative to the other indices year to date. However, since 1 January 2020, the index has delivered a negative return, which is worse than both the KPNGX index, the C25 index and the S30 index, which have all delivered positive returns since 1 January 2020.

Developments during the week on First North Denmark at company level

25 out of 51 companies in the KPFNDK index delivered a positive return. Astralis A/S was the overwhelming winner of the week with an increase of 17%. Erria A/S and Trophy Games Development A/S followed well with increases of 11%. LED iBond International A/S was the worst performing stock of the week after a fall of 14%.

Winner of the week on First North Denmark: Astralis A/S

Astralis A/S (+17%) is active in the e-sports segment. Within the company there are a number of teams focusing on competitions in games such as Counterstrike and FIFA. Revenues come mainly from sponsorships, marketing and sales of various accessories. Operations are global, with the company participating in competitions across Europe and North America.

The company has a market capitalisation of 153 MDKK and the share price has fallen 30% year to date.

Developments during the week for the Nordic healthcare stocks

The Kapital Partner Healthcare (KPHC) index rose 0.7% during the week. 83 out of 293 companies in the index rose during the week. CS Medica A/S (+31%) was the winner of the week, also becoming the best performing stock across the Nordic growth exchanges. WntResearch AB and Calmark Sweden AB also rose to the top among Nordic healthcare stocks after increases of 44% and 37%, respectively. Modulight Oyj was the worst performer, falling 45%.
